Here are some photos from the event. Last Friday PLA had the opportunity to spread a little Christmas cheer by helping decorate the Heading Home Offices in South Boston. Heading Home is a non-profit organization that provides emergency, transitional and permanent housing. In addition, they provide support services to (formally) homeless and low-income individuals and families in and around the Boston Area. Chris Zarek has been active working with this terrific organization over the last years, helping to re-furbish several transitional apartments. The Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition (KRob) is the longest running currently active architectural drawing competition in the world. For this year’s 39th annual competition, PLA’s own Alex Hogrefe (also of www.alexhogrefe.com) was asked to sit on the jury along with fellow representation and visualization experts such as architect and University of Michigan Associate Professor Perry Kulper and sci-fi and fantasy artist Stephan Martiniere. PLA was recently awarded second place in the “Small Lots / BIG IDEAS” competition in Northampton, MA. The competition was sponsored by the town’s planning department and called for design solutions well suited for a narrow site not far from Smith College. The Town will make the land available to residents that will build one of the submitted design proposals. Our submission, the “PV+ House” is a prototypical house based on an open plan design found in both the classic New England barn and the New York loft.
